Responsive Advocacy I: Now is the Time!

June 10th session Playback Part 1 & 3 of the session. More info visit www.womenoftoledo.org/advocacy "While I had initially thought of this program as space for white women to call in other white women to do the work of unpacking whiteness and rejecting white fragility, the overwhelming response from women in the community is that they want to have an interracial dialogue. In the spirit of being responsive to community needs, we have decided to change the program to an interracial dialogue about white fragility as a barrier to interracial coalitions among women, especially as it relates to mothering. The voices of black and non-black women of color are absolutely crucial to struggles for women’s liberation and racial justice. The session on Wednesday is just one piece of a much larger series guided by a team of racially diverse women. This first program was intended to be a space where white women could prepare other white women for racial justice allyship by helping each other work through white fragility so that we don’t re-traumatize POC when we enter racial justice spaces. That said, the overwhelming response from women in the community is that they want to have an interracial dialogue so we are shifting gears a bit. I’ll be providing a short context lecture on white fragility as a barrier to interracial coalitions then we will break out into small groups for interracial discussions on how white fragility shows up in our lives, and how white women can build the resiliency necessary for social justice work." 2021 HeForShe Forum: National Women’s Small Business month

October is National Women's Small Business Month celebrating the creative entrepreneurs who took the plunge to start a small business despite gender barriers. According to the 2020 report from the National Women’s Business Council, in 1972, women only owned 4.6% of all businesses in the United States. Now women own 42% of businesses in the United States. In conjunction with the National Women’s Small Business for October, we are highlighting HeForShe that supports wife/partner, who is a business owner. The goal is for the speakers to share their stories, experiences, and insight into how they recognize as equal partners in business or for business, for the men as HeForShe helping each other to build/invest in the businesses, raise families/communities, and give back. HeForShe is UN Women’s solidarity movement for gender equality. HeForShe invites men and boys to build on the work of the women’s movement as equal partners, crafting and implementing a shared vision of gender equality that will benefit all of humanity. Men play a critical role in supporting and enabling women’s economic empowerment. HeForShe engages men to examine how their own personal and professional lives can better recognize, reduce, and redistribute care and responsibilities between the market and the state, between the household and the workplace, and between women and men – UN Women, HeForShe, In Brief https://www.womenoftoledo.org/heforshe
